This is just a reminder that today is an early dismissal day. Schools will dismiss 3 hours early today for School Days at the Fair!
Washington County Public Schools will offer child care options to families of middle school students on school days that have an altered schedule.
If we have a scheduled early dismissal, students will be able to stay at school until the normal closure of school. For Wallace Middle School, the school day ends at 3:15 p.m. Parents are responsible for transportation and picking up their child/children at the appropriate time.
If we operate on a two-hour delay, students may enter the building at the normal time, 8:00 AM. Parents will be responsible for providing transportation to this program.
During these times, we will provide tutoring and other activities.
The first day that this service will be offered is September 21 for the scheduled early dismissal for teacher/parent conferences.
If you plan to use this service, please notify Ms. Gail Partin in the main office at 276-642-5400
Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia and the Town of Damascus are proud to announce the grand opening of Josie's Nature Playground on Sept. 22 at 5:30 pm

George M. and Grayson L., are currently studying the amendment ratification process in Civics class with Mrs. Hawkins. As an extension of their learning, these two students proposed an amendment concerning the option of adding recess for all grade levels to Mr. Worley.
While learning more about the events/history of 9/11, Wallace Middle School students have participated in a variety of activities. We had a school-wide Patriot Day with students and staff sporting their red, white, and blue. Eighth-grade student, Leah O., led a 9/11 Tribute and a collective Moment of Silence for the entire school over the intercom at 8:46 a.m., the time Flight 11 struck the World Trade Center's North Tower. Some of the History, Civics, and World Geography classes have been discussing heroes this week, particularly highlighting acts of altruism and bravery. They specifically took a look at Welles Crowther, and students are independently researching four of their own examples to share. They brainstormed community service ideas and plan to do one in honor of lives lost on 9/11. Students enjoyed collaborating to create a large "Never Forget" poster to hang in the hall. WMS teachers shared their own accounts of the events of that solemn day. A few teachers were working at WMS or were students at our school on September 11, 2001; many of them explained how the day unfolded and impacted our community.
WCPS is proud to partner with parentguidance.org to help support the mental health needs of our students and families. We invite you to join us for the first of two Virtual Mental Health Family Nights tonight. More information here: https://5il.co/24s0z

Shout out to our community partners @foodcitygrocery. Specifically, the Bonham Rd. Bristol, VA store for donating cases of water to Wallace Middle and Valley Institute Elementary. This donation ensured that our students had plenty of water to drink during the boil water notice.
